Ven8 helps people search their own professional network. This page explains what we do with personal data: for people on our invite list, for people who use the Ven8 app, and for people who appear in someone else's network without ever signing up. If anything here is unclear, email privacy@ven8.app.

The short version

1. If you join the invite list

What we collect. The email address you enter on ven8.app, and the time you entered it. Nothing else. ven8.app doesn't use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers.

Why. To send you a short welcome email, to tell you when a place in the private beta opens, and occasionally to tell you about new features. We do this because you asked us to. Submitting the form is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time.

How long. Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Every update we send has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops our emails, and we keep the address marked as unsubscribed so we don't email you again by mistake, until you ask us to delete it completely.

2. If you use the Ven8 app

What we collect.

Why. To build your searchable network and answer your questions about it.

Enrichment. Ven8 searches the web, through Serper, for public information about the people in your network, such as their role, company and location. A Gemini model reads the results, and Ven8 adds what it finds to their entries.

AI. When you ask a question, the relevant parts of your network are sent to Google's Gemini API to write the answer. The same Gemini API reads the web search results described under Enrichment. We use Google's paid API, and under those terms Google doesn't use this data to train its models.

CSV import. When you import a CSV file, the column headers and a few sample rows (at most five) are sent to Google's Gemini API to suggest what each column means. The rest of the file is not sent.

The Ven8 Chrome extension. If you install it, the extension can see the address of your LinkedIn tabs and nothing else: not the content of the page, not other websites, and not the rest of your browsing history. While its side panel is open, it sends the address of the LinkedIn profile you're looking at to Ven8, to check whether that person is already in your network. Looking someone up doesn't save anything. When you press Add, it sends that address, the name you confirm and any note you type, and saves them to your network. The extension connects to Ven8 with a capture token you create in Settings. The token is kept only on your computer, and you can revoke it at any time.

Visible to people connected to them. A person's name and LinkedIn address are visible to people connected to them. Beyond that, the only other facts about them visible this way are ones Ven8 found published about them, or that they wrote about themselves: their work history, education, skills, certifications, publications and projects, headline, and location — but only where Ven8 found that location from a public source; a location that came from a user's own address book stays private. A bio is visible this way only if the person wrote it themselves; one Ven8 generated stays private. We never share your notes about them, last-contacted and other relationship details, their phone number or email address, groups and labels, or the connection itself — who knows whom is the one thing Ven8 never shares.

Who can see it. Your network is visible to you. If you're on a paid plan, your chat can also see a limited amount of information about people who are a connection of your connections — specifically, the current role they've listed about themselves. It never sees anything you or another user marked private, and it never sees that person's own list of connections. Our team doesn't look at a user's network, except when you ask us to or when we need to fix a fault or protect security.

How long. Until you ask us to delete it. To delete your account and your network, email privacy@ven8.app. We do it by hand within 30 days.

3. If you're in someone else's network

Ven8 users add the people they know to their own network, so you can appear in Ven8 without ever having signed up.

What we may hold about you. What was in the user's LinkedIn export or Google Contacts, or what they saved with the Ven8 Chrome extension (a LinkedIn address, a name and a note), typically your name, role, company and LinkedIn URL. Notes the user wrote about you. Public information Ven8 found on the web, such as your role, company and location.

What we do with it. It helps that user search their own network. Nothing a Ven8 user imports about you is shown to anyone else, except your name and LinkedIn address. Those two stay visible to people connected to you — people who may include users you've never met. Beyond that, the only other facts about you visible this way are ones Ven8 found published about you, or that you wrote about yourself: your work history, education, skills, certifications, publications and projects, headline, and location, but only where Ven8 found that location from a public source. The notes a user wrote about you, who is connected to you, and other relationship details, your phone number and email address, and your groups and labels stay private. If the user is on a paid plan, and you are a connection of one of their connections, the current role you've listed about yourself may also be visible to that paid user's chat — see section 2.

Your choices. Email privacy@ven8.app and tell us what to delete or correct: a name, a LinkedIn URL, or whatever identifies you. We reply within 30 days.

We delete details you gave to Ven8 yourself. We don't delete information that is publicly available, or information a Ven8 user brought with them: that information belongs in that user's own network. If your request covers something we don't delete, we'll tell you what it is and why.

4. Who handles data for us

They handle personal data for us and only for these purposes. Some of these companies are based in the United States, so data may be processed there or in other countries. We don't sell personal data. Beyond these companies, the only other sharing is the pooling described in sections 2 and 3: a person's name and LinkedIn address are visible to people connected to that person, and so are the other facts Ven8 found published about them, or that they wrote about themselves: work history, education, skills, certifications, publications and projects, headline, and location, but only where Ven8 found that location from a public source. We never share notes, phone numbers, email addresses, groups and labels, or who's connected to whom.

5. Security

Everything between you and Ven8 travels over HTTPS. You sign in with a link sent to your email, so Ven8 doesn't store passwords.

6. Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop emailing you. Email privacy@ven8.app from the address concerned, or with whatever identifies you if you're in someone else's network. We reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

7. Children

Ven8 isn't meant for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

8. Changes

If we change this page in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and tell users and the invite list by email.
